What Is Family, Friend and Neighbor Care?
FFN caregivers is a broad term that includes various types of individuals who provide care, typically having an established relationship with the child and their family. These caregivers are often grandmothers, aunts, trusted friends, neighbors, or other family members. The definition of FFN caregivers can vary from state to state, with each of the 50 states having its own interpretation. In many states, FFN caregivers are exempt from licensure requirements, meaning they don’t need formal certification to care for the smaller groups of children they look after. FFN caregivers may be either paid or unpaid for their services, but most do not consider themselves as formal providers; instead, they see their role as one of kinship or community support.
